Welcome to Bintulu, Sarawak. I had stayed at Kemena Plaza Hotel more than three times for now, so I decided to make a review of my current stay as the room had been refurbished as they said. Yes, it did a little bit different from my previous stay with the previous hotel management. A positive upgrade.
Kemena Plaza Hotel, I can say one of the pioneer hotel in Bintulu, except with a different name before. I think it is the only one 3-star hotel which located at the jetty area. All other hotel nearby are motels, guesthouse and etc. This area for now, local in Bintulu did not visit frequently for now as in Bintulu they have the new main town located at the Park City Commercial Centre or Medan area, this is where all the new hotels and shopping malls located.
It is 200 m to Bintulu Jetty, while Bintulu Esplanade is 400 m away. Bintulu Paragon is 1.3 km from Kemena Plaza Hotel. Bintulu Airport is 20.1 km from the property. If you are staying on the weekend, there is a night market nearby. Wet market also within a walk from the hotel. But to be honest, just be careful to stroll within this area as there is many foreign workers around (Philippines/Indonesian). That is why the local did not always hangout at this area.
Kemena Plaza Hotel offers accommodations in Bintulu. It features an outdoor swimming pool and guests can enjoy meals at the in-house restaurant or have a drink at the bar. Free WiFi is available in all rooms. There is a fitness centre for guests to engage in a workout session. Alternatively, there is a sauna room.
The best thing for now they have a rooftop swimming pool. When it is raining, you can still enjoying the pool. The size quite decent and the pool tend to be empty every time.
The room space is spacious. The location where they put television a little bit off to me. This time, I got a room with a big pillar in the middle of the room (see photo). And they put a big table next to the pillar. A very strange interior. But never mind, at least my stay is comfortable.
The disadvantage here, the parking is quite limited and the other area is dangerous for parking. There is restaurant within a walk of the hotel, but not as good as at the Park City or Medan area.
Breakfast buffet spread was good. Last time La Bistro Coffee House served a very good mixed grill. I used to have it every time I was here but now I am not sure with the new management.
Conclusion, if I given a chance to choose my own hotel in Bintulu, Kemena Plaza Hotel might not in my top list. Many new hotels in Bintulu now, which more chic, contemporary, brand new, and located at the good area. And I am not sure why my company always book this hotel every time we are in Bintulu.
