Thanks to hostelbooker.com's facebook page! I found this thought is very interesting about travelling by Henry Rollings. Yeah! I'm quite agree with what he said.

"I beg young people to travel. If you don't have passport, get one. Take a summer, get a backpack and go to Delhi, go to Saigon, go to Bangkok, go to Kenya."
Yeah!. There is no reason for you not to traveling. Most of the reason they can't do it because they are very busy. When you are still young, that is a gold chance for you to traveling. You still do not have a serious commitment. I am very disappointing with myself because I never thought of traveling while I was in university. Most of my money, I spend on shopping. I was a shopaholic back then. Imagine, if every semester break, I go to travel, must be a good experience for myself as a student. I still not yet travel to India, next year I hope so, been to Saigon or known as Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and also not yet for Bangkok. I need to cancel my Bangkok trip last year backpacking plan because of the flood situation. I changed my plan with continue my journey to Chiang Rai and entered Laos from Luang Prabang. Kenya? Still not in my list. But the point is, just travel wherever you want, see whatever awaits for you out there.
"Have your mind blown, eat interesting food, dig some interesting people, have an adventure, be careful."
During my last backpacking, my mind always blown away. Sometimes, I thought it was because of andrenalin rush. Eat interesting food is a must. As for me, in Indonesia, they always have many interesting things to eat. Plus the scary one. In Bandung, I ate one of the cow organ which boiled with noodle. I don't know what it is, it's called BEBEK. The structure of the meat is like a Durian skin. Very scary and its very hard to bite! I do not like it all. For Muslim, there are some restrictions involving choosing a food. It's very tough to find food in Philippnes. Eventhough I want to try their food, but I can't. But I had eaten worm spaghetti. My Philippines ordered me a spaghetti as I informed him earlier that I can't eat chicken, meat or pork. So he ordered me a worm ingredient instead. I only knew after I finished eating the meal! Yucks. Interesting people? a lottttttt!. I met many interesting persons during my journey, especially in Philippines. you know, Filipinos are very friendly. I be friend with a tricycle driver when I'm in Bohol. I met his family, having a dinner at his house, and they treated me really good.!
"Come back and you're going to see your country differently, you're going to see your president differently, no matter who it is. Music, culture, food, water. Your showers will become shorter. You're going to get a sense of what globalization look like. You're going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people, their day consists of walking 12 miles for four buckets of water. And so there are lessons that you can't get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight. "
Of course you will learn many things while you travel. Eventhough I'm from Asia, but my country still consider "OK" if I'm comparing other countries. I never interested about their politics. But when everytime I was in Indonesia, I need to prepare my politic mind. Because in Indonesia, most of them really interested in politic. They will asking many question about politic. So, just be prepared. You don't want to sound so unknowledgeable. I can't tell you how I feel after and before I traveled. But after I come back to my own country, I am really greatly because I was born in Malaysia. Malaysia is a damn happy and harmony country. And I proud of it.!
"A lot of people, Americans & Europeans, come back and go "ohhhh". And the lightbulb goes on."
Americans, Europeans.... I always refers them as White People during my traveling. I friends with them, I listen and learn from the stories. I still keep in touch with some of them. They always thought me I am very interesting guys because I am from Borneo. I always introduce myself from a Borneo Island. "Hi, you can called me Fadli, and I'm from Borneo!".... I still remember in Boracay, there were always 5 of us every night to enjoy a night life. There are American, Irish, Germany, Slovakia and I.... They called me as "Crazy Malaysian Boys"... Because I always doing crazy stuffs randomly. I still can't forget what happened back there. The "Hung Over" movie is really happen. When we wake up one morning, we never know what had happen last night. It's so mysterious.! Lol. One thing I know now for sure that white people male or female, they like to gossip and spread the news!
Conclusion
So, get your backpack! And start to travel! No need to buy guide book. Just buy a flight ticket and work with the flows and hope everything will be OK!... I love it and I love every minutes of it.
I also regret for not start travelling when was a student. The main reason at that moment cause no cheap flight and AirAsia hasn't established at that moment.
ReplyDeleteYou are shopaholic? Hard to believe that. Even I am gal, I not that shopaholic type. Hahaha..
I want to travel if I could. But commitment make me stay. Hopefully should go travelling next year maybe for a few hours
ReplyDeleteI think Asians and Europeans have more opportunities to travel compared to Americans. I know of Americans who haven't even got the chance to leave their own hometowns even at an old age.
