Gems of Qatar - Museum of Islamic Arts

Marvel at authentic Middle-Eastern treasures dating back to the 7th century

Singapore, 21 March 2016 - A seamless blend of timeless traditions and modernity, Qatar combines year-round sunshine, luxury accommodation and outstanding service with a wide range of sightseeing opportunities, activities and sports, topped off with a fascinating taste of its own unique culture. In a nation so steeped in heritage, Qatar has successfully preserved its historical roots while evolving as an urban regional metropolis at the forefront of global trends. A nation filled with treasures, gems and interesting finds, we bring you the glistening Gems of Qatar series to share what shouldn't be missed while planning your trip to the charming Arabic nation.

Architecture and Inspiration
The Museum of Islamic Arts is one fine case in point. Built on a reclaimed island, the majestic structure is an iconic addition to Doha’s skyline and draws much influence from ancient Islamic architecture, notably the Ibn Tulun Mosque in Cairo. The museum is the brainchild of Pritzker Prize-winning veteran architect I.M. Pei, who came out of retirement to design the Museum of Islamic Arts. The veteran Chinese-American architect is best known for the landmark glass pyramid in the forecourt of the Louvre - still widely regarded as the world’s greatest museum.

Treasure Trove of Art, History and Culture
Rising five-storeys high, the main building of the Museum is topped by a high domed atrium within a central tower. An adjacent education wing is connected by a large central courtyard. The Museum is a wealth of art and a treasure trove of historical resources, boasting an impressive collection of ceramics, glass, metalwork, manuscripts and textiles dating back to the seventh century. Special exhibitions cover over a thousand years of Islamic art, giving an unparalleled glimpse into Qatar’s history and culture.

Along with the permanent and temporary galleries, there is a library and an auditorium where regular talks and interactive workshops are held. For culture buffs and history enthusiasts, this place is not to be missed.

Learning and Fun for Everyone
Some museums may seem uninviting or high-brow, but not the Museum of Islamic Arts. Its extensive learning resources for teachers, adults, students, families and schools mean that there is something for everyone. For young adults, there are a myriad of activities to do, such as meeting with museum staff in their Behind‐The‐Scenes tours and Thursday Late Tours, creating their very own artworks, inspired by historic pieces from Islamic civilisation in a workshop, or joining the Majlis Book Club(available in Arabic & English) and discussing books linked to Islamic Art, Museums or Arabic History.

The museum is also child-friendly, with Family Tours, Children’s Weekday Workshops, and playgrounds in the MIA Park to keep children fully occupied.

Flight Review – Korean Air KE672 Kuala Lumpur-Incheon

categories: ,

This was my first time flying with Korean Air and premium airlines to the East Asia. I had been flew using Air Asia X, Tiger Airways, Peach, Busan Air, Eastern Jet and Cebu Pacific, all are budget airlines. This trip was my working trip where I need to sign on the vessel in Incheon. So that’s mean I will only flew one way. My flight was midnight, scheduled on 23.59 but delayed around 15 minutes.

The check-in  was fast. Local KLIA staff at the counter. Because I only had one way ticket, they asking me whether I am working in South Korea. I told them I need to sign on the ship at Incheon. I showed them my company letter. They also asked my Seafarer discharge book and Seafarer Card. All the process was smooth. I still remember when I was flew with Air Asia X from KL to Seoul, we only had 1 way ticket and they never asked anything about the visa or returned ticket. I asked for the window seat.

They aircraft they using is Boeing 777-300. But I was not really surprise. Not the first time flew using this type of aircraft. I was using the economy class, with figuration of the seat 3-3-3. The Business class look pretty normal. Not so much extravaganza.

I really surprised with their Cabin Crew. So good and professional. I really thought the Malaysian Cabin Crews are the best, but when I flew with Korea Air, they are better. Really humble down to earth look, always smiling, pretty cute, I felt really welcome when entered the flight. When I asked to borrow the pen, they gave me the pen without hesitation even I knew they did not provide a pen for us to fill the arrival form. I love their grooming, simple, the makeup not so heavy, very neat hair bun with looks like chopstick at their hair bun.

You will be provided with slipper like hotel always provide to you. It is for you to wear if you want more comfortable rather using shoe. Surprisingly, this was my first experience to have a slipper inside a flight. You also will be provided with blanket. For the movies and series, I only watched James Bond after I wake up for meals because I was so tired and it was midnight.

My company booked my ticket on the morning and my flight is on the midnight. So when I called requested for special meal, they said it was too late, because every special meal request must be made 48hours before your flight. But their customer service said they will inform the KLIA about my request plus they also mention all the meal from KL flight are HALAL, I only need to request the special meal if I fly from South Korea. The meals served at 4 am in the morning. It was really hard for me to wake up. Its felt like I was going to “Sahur”. They offered 3 menus to be choose, Egg, Chicken or Fish. Of course I choose Chicken. It turn out the menu was Chicken with Rice, not really impressive look but simply delicious. It was 4am, and I do not really care and my eyes hardly open.

I gave 80/100 for Korean Air for good services and crews. Recommended airlines for you to start your adventure!

10 Barangan LAZADA Menjadi Pilihan Untuk Travel 2016

LAZADA! LAZADA! LAZADA!

Sebelum iolz senaraikan 10 barangan tu, jom layankan dulu video pengenalan iolz. Dah tonton belum? Kalau dah confirm menggigil terasa nak travel dengan harapan nak ambik crown iolz. Gituh!

Go Pro Hero 4 - (Klik untuk melihat produk)

Ini adalah memang wishlist No.1 iolz lama dah, dari Hero yang takda nombor, sekarang dah No.4 tapi tak jugak-jugak beli. Sejak Samsung Nex Mini iolz hilang semasa iolz kat Egypt, rasanya dah tiba masanya iolz beli Go Pro nih. Boleh ambik banyak video time travel. Jangan ko sentap nanti semua gambar travel iolz ala-ala mata ikan (Fish Eye). Dahla iolz muka besar, bila di Fish Eye lagi lah besar nanti…. Tunggu je la… confirm ko sentap sampai taknak like gambar iolz….

Apple Iphone 6 Plus (Klik untuk melihat produk)

Ni jujur lah nak iolz bagitau yang iolz ni bukan peminat Apple. Tetapi trip ke DIENG, INDONESIA yang lepas iolz dah sentap ngan pinangan iPhone nih. Macam ni citer dier haaa, iolz pegi panjat bukit Sikunir time tu, gigih nak tengok sunrise, sanggup tak mandi jadi mat rempit ke Sikunir. Bila dah nak sunrise tu, iolz cuba la kamera iolz. Tapi quality tak cantik.. nak guna Go Pro kawan iolz, dua kali lima, penyelamatnya adalah Iphone! Impress betul iolz time tu, rupanya Iphone ni bagus untuk low light gitu.

3.    Sony Digital Voice Recoder (Klik untuk melihat produk)
Sony Digital Voice Recoder (Klik untuk melihat produk)

Benda ini sebenarnya memang iolz tak pernah terfikir pon. Tetapi sejak dua menjak ni, iolz merasakan benda ni tersangat lah penting. Sebab sepanjang iolz travel, banyak jugak tour dimana ada guide yang explain tentang sesuatu tempat. Tapi bila dah balik, iolz nak recall balik untuk buat blog, iolz lupa. Maybe makan semut banyak sangat. Jadi kalau iolz ada recorder ni, iolz dah imagine, cuma sangkutkan recorder kat leher ala-ala rantai, dan biarlah dia rakam semua perbualan sepanjang perjalanan. Kalau iolz nak buat blog, just cuma replay jer lah kan. Senang. Teringat time kat Cairo, sewaktu iolz dibawa tour ke kawasan Piramid, iolz memang tak dapat nak ingat semua nama-nama sejarah Egypt yang dia sebut-sebut. Iolz angguk jerlah walaupun masuk telinga kanan kluar dari kiri.

Suunto Watch (Klik untuk melihat produk)

Sebab next travel projek iolz banyak melibatkan pendakian gunung ganang, maka iolz rasakan jika iolz pakai jam Suunto, mesti iolz akan bertambah-tambah seri lagi. Iolz boleh je tengok suhu sekeliling dengan melihat kat jam jer, masa sunset, sunrise, altitud, longitud, kadar degupan jantung... wah... sangat bagus lah! tak payah lagi iolz nak bawak jam Patek Philip iolz... hahaha.. sila nangis sekrang!

Deuter Traveller 80L + 10L Travelling Backpack (Klik untuk melihat produk)

Backpack ini bukan sebarang backpack tau. Memang rare susah nak carik! Sebab apa? sebab backpack nie guna zip bukan guna ikat tali kat atas beg tu. Iolz dah lama giler cari beg berzip macam nie. Lebih selamat! Lagipun 80L uolz, memang muatlah iolz nak letak bantal, guling, kucing, periuk, high heel dan sebagainya....

Amazon All-New Kindle Voyage Wi-Fi 2014 Version Ebook Reader (Klik untuk melihat produk)

Tapi laptop kenalah slim seperti tuan nya, supaya iolz takla penat sangat nak bawak backpack. Lagipun iolz takla malu sangat kalau ala-ala blog kat StarBucks kan.... yang penting Apple... lagi satu, edit video guna iMovie sangat amazing tau....!

Bolehla uolz nanti main masak-masak kat dalam hostel or hotel... tapi make sure tengok la dulu keadaan sekeliling, tetiba ada pengesan asap, mampuih!

Pemilihan kasut semasa traveling adalah sangat penting uolz! Ingat tu! Uolz taknak cedera semasa hiking ataupun buat aktiviti lasak.
